CSPA is 60. Damn that’s old. But that’s a good thing.

CSPA is now 60 years of age. That’s right folks, CSPA has survived as long with out Mr. and Mrs. Alexander as most of our instructors did with them. This means, as Rich said at the reunion, they are our Ralph and Millie. They are the ones that touch our lives and provide us with inspiration to continue what they’ve carried on for Ralph.

I feel that it is the duty of every CSPA class to contribute as much as they can, whether it be a small donation, or donating a week of time to teach. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as we all work together to make this thing go another 60 years. I know it sounds corny, and I’ve only been here a week, but I can feel the tradition here. There’s a reason Matt comes back every year as counselor. Maybe he’ll be an instructor one day. There’s a reason Steve comes back, Gil, Larry, Stan, Jessica, Art, Todd, and so many more. Heck, even James Harvey, who’s not even interested in journalism, comes back every year and has a good time! There’s definitely something special about this place.

So here’s a countdown of the top 3 reasons why.

Reason Number 3

The food. It gives us a second thing we have in common with each other other than journalism: whining about the food. I’m sure there are 23 other students who would second that.

Reason Number 2

24-26 students every year. This means that we are forced to interact with everyone. It leads to a tightly-knit group that seems like it will stay intact for years. There will be reunions.

Reason Number 1

Volunteering. Because everyone who comes back volunteers, they have to come back for a reason other than money. This means that it has to be for the passion and nothing else.

They’re engaging, they know they’re stuff, and I think they could all get teaching degrees because they’re really good.
