The dorm showers provide adequate privacy, if you feel like a banana hammock does not put you on “display,” that is. The Lassen Hall dorm staff was kind enough to provide a curtain that protects the user and shower from the bathroom hallway like Hope Solo protected the net from the ball in the World Cup final shoot out (too soon?). For time efficiency, there is another curtain that divides the structure into two showers, which is as useful as Alex Smith in a two-minute drill.  The shower is fairly roomy. Taking a shower in there is like stretching my legs out in the back seat of Mini.
Something else that’s great about these showers is that they have low flow showerheads so you’re being green and saving the world. Also, it doesn’t distract your dorm-mates, because the shower is so quiet that your dorm-mates could open the curtain to take a shower with out even realizing someone’s there. Environmentally and people conscience? I’d bite off a piece of that.
The actual rooms are great. If you live in a three-banger like me, then you get two bunk beds. I love rock climbing, so the top bunk is ideal. Who needs a ladder when you can find crevices to climb up? Also, the room is designed smartly so that not only do you not get your morning exercise in when you get up, but you don’t need coffee because, as you’d expect, gently tapping your head on hard wood can do wonders to stimulate your brain and get you out of that groggy morning state.
Closet space is more than sufficient. I could fit a suitcase and a suit in the trunk of a Miata the other day, so this closet was like twice that at least. I could fit my entire suitcase, a violin, AND a plastic bag with some clothes in it. That’s a heck of a lot more than the Miata.
We are able to have roommate-bonding experiences as we get to know each other. We even know when someone moves in bed. We know when they’re changing. We know when they wake up, when they fall asleep, when they go to the bathroom, when the go to eat, when they go to play outside, when they browse the Internet on their electronic devices. We know what they are doing at all times, and that develops a close bond and relationship, and I attribute that to the dorm.
