It feels like just yesterday that I walked into the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Journalism Department for the first time in July of 2008 (with co-counselor Matt Hanlon, next to me above). I remember listening to Larry’s orientation lecture on the first day and feeling incredibly overwhelmed by the workload but excited to learn and meet new friends. Little did I know that the workshop would be filled with some of the most intense but also the most rewarding experiences of my life. Three years later, I’m back as a counselor because I couldn’t get enough! But aside from needing more CSPA in my life, I came to the workshop to re-fall in love with journalism and be inspired by a new generation of high school journalists, who I know will have a great two weeks.
