CSPA’s underrated multimedia and professional lessons

The CSPA Workshop advertises itself as a hard core journalism experience, but it should promote more the lessons that we got on multimedia journalism and “how to succeed in the work world.”

The journalism writing lessons were excellent for the most part, but I wasn’t anticipating to learn “Five tips for being a great intern” or how to incorporate plugins into a WordPress blog.

Some of my favorite lessons were  Nicole and Todd’s lectures because we learned invaluable multimedia and job-obtaining skills, which will be a big help down the road. Nicole taught us how to manage our “brand” on the Internet and craft and effective resume. Todd taught us how to write a cover letter.

My favorite parts of the workshop (in no particular order)

  • Campus Market’s chicken paninis
  • morning runs with Matt
  • epic ping-pong battles against James (Harvey)
  • late night talks with the boys
  • bashing on the food at Vista Grande
  • capture the flag at the park
  • covering late night breaking news
  • being Tweet masters with Jake
  • squeezing into Saba’s tiny punch buggy
  • gossiping about the counselors and instructors
