There’s no place like dorms

Being stripped of all privacy and comfort is only a quick click of your sparkly red heels away.

There truly is no place like a dorm. There are no such concepts of comfort or privacy when it comes to staying in a dorm. Although, this may only hold true to the three universities I have had the pleasure of surviving in for the duration of summer camps. Fortunately these camps tend to last no longer than two weeks.

Despite my lack of experience with true dorm life, my experience with summer camp dorm life does not provide me with any incentive of investing in it any further.

Our first matter of business: Roommates. Living in a dorm usually implies living with a roommate, and one not necessarily of your exact preference. I’ve encountered variations of experiences with roommates at summer camps. Three out of four times they are tolerable. The only conclusion I can draw from these results is that of which one of my four undergraduate years of college will be nothing less than a sweet taste of hell. Lets just hope that roommate is not an immediate threat to anything other than my nerves.

Unless by the grace of a higher power you are given the luxury of your own private bathroom, you are usually thrown into a hot mess of a communal bathroom. Or in other words, “the watering hole.” Trying to thoroughly keep up good hygiene is mission impossible in what could better be described as a public restroom at its finest. Finding remnants of another’s late night snack in the very sink I use to brush my teeth is not the way I like to start my mornings off. Discovering foreign substances on the floor of your shower doesn’t exactly make anyone feel clean. I suggest investing in shower flip-flops in order to successfully avoid the horrors of a community bathroom.

I also recommend saving all bathroom time for the early morning in order to dodge any interaction with the strange creatures of the night or the late morning birds with no consideration for anything apart from their assurance of a leisurely, two hour shower.
