Harry Potter has captured the hearts, minds, and imaginations of youth for over a decade. Since the 1998 release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, millions of fans, including sixteen-year old Aneesa Andrabi, have gone to midnight book releases and movie premieres to enter the fictional world of Hogwarts.
Andrabi has been to nearly every midnight book release and movie premiere. She even sports a costume to some. For the most recent Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, she waited in line for nearly five hours to enter the theatre just before midnight dressed up as Bellatrix Lestrange, an evil witch.
“It’s not just a book or an obsession or a movie,” said Andrabi. “It really represents my childhood.”
Andrabi’s love of Harry Potter dates back nearly a decade.
“I started reading Harry Potter when I was about 7 years old,” says Andrabi. “I remember asking my mom what invisible meant because there was a chapter called ‘the invisibility cloak.’”
Although the book and movie franchise have ended, Andrabi remains confident that Hogwarts will live on. She recalls what Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling said at the Deathly Hallows London premiere.
“Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.”
