“Next on LA News, Rachel Dumont with your weekend forecast.”
That was all I said as I passed the figurative baton onto Rachel today during our broadcast taping. My story, about the end of LA’s red light camera program, had just finished and it was time to cover the weather.
The broadcast taping was fun and, like nearly every other assignment at CSPA, there was some “breaking news” involved. Some high school journalism students participating in a workshop at Cal Poly had gotten into a food fight with a cheerleading camp. Who would’ve guessed there were two high school journalism workshops on the Cal Poly campus at the same time?!
The hardest thing about being live on TV is reading speed. Depending on breaking news, length of other reports and time remaining, on air personalities might have to read really fast or really slow. But no matter the speed, the news will get out.
I’m Mitchell Handler, signing off for now. See you again tomorrow.
Would love to see you on live TV!
