An experience of a lifetime

Coming up to San Luis Obispo for the CSPA workshop was one of the best decisions I have ever made.  I have learned so much in the last two weeks, and I have made so many great friends that I know I will have for life.  On the first day, I did not believe any of the instructors or counselors that I would learn as much as I did or make as many great friends as I did.  After two weeks of late-night crime stories, and hours of taking silly pictures with friends, I can confirm the instructor’s and counselor’s first words.

My writing has improved immensely.  At first, I could barely turn in my papers because of a new and shortened deadline.  Now I can make the deadline with extra time.  Through CSPA, I have learned which types of journalism I really enjoy.  I found that feature writing, travel writing, covering trials, and even broadcast journalism are the fields that I prefer.  Crime stories and sports reporting….well…..

I have also made some great friends.  I am glad I was able to get to know everyone in the workshop, and develop strong relationships with everyone.  Through hard working days, and crazy hyper nights, I had a great time with everyone.  It was an amazing experience getting to know people who have the same passions as me.  My new friends had so much fun taking ridiculous pictures, eating the excellent food of vista grande, and of course laughing so hard that no sound was actually coming out of our mouths.  I love everyone here, and recognize everyone’s unique talents.

I would like to thank the counselors and the instructors for helping me improve my writing and general knowledge of journalism.  The counselors were always there to help all of us students integrate.

I know that I am going to stay in touch with everyone here, and will carry my journalism skills with me throughout my life.  The CSPA taught me so much about the techniques of journalism, socializing with new people, and has helped guide me in the direction I want to go in my career.

Thank you 2011 CSPA!!!
