Ritika Iyer has a passion for dancing, especially after 11 years. However, she isn’t into typical dancing like jazz and tap.
Ritika’s style of dancing is called Bharathanatayam, which is a classical Indian dance.
She started dancing with her sister was she was about six years old.
“The dance is pretty looking and you get to where pretty stuff, like things in your hair, make up and different costumes,” Ritika said. “I think that’s why I started but now I actually like the dance.”
The company that she dances for puts on about three large productions a year and it consists of many different styles. Some of the dance pieces are expressions where they tell a story and others are just “hard core dancing.”
Bharathanatayam has set Ritika apart from others for the past 11 years and now defines who she is.
“Dance has been such a big part of my life because it has taught me discipline, hard work and about my culture,” Ritika said.
