Up, up and away we go!
Words cannot possibly describe the last two weeks. It’s just impossible! As we go off into our separate ways, I know that these two weeks will always bind us together. We’ll run into each other, years from now, and be amazed at how far we’ve come in life. We’ll be mesmerized at how much CSPA has been such a keystone in our future careers.
I will emulate to be as passionate as our instructors were. Last night, I was reflecting back while I was trying to sleep and even though there were several down times, the good times made up for it by like x10000000. Just seeing these passionate professional people teach us…it’s just incredible. At first, I thought about why these people would ever go back down to CSPA after so many years. But now I know why. CSPA creates determination and a belief that you can succeed in everyone. We’re the best of the best writers out there and we’ll make the rough drafts of the future.
The friends that I have made here, thank you so much. My computer buddies, my roommate, my pow wow pack, my rebellious neighbors, my friendly snoring monster from down under, and our counselors..I have learned from all of you guys. Counselors Mel, Matt and Marissa have all been so cooperative and helpful. Seriously..they did our laundry? What kind of person who you’ve met just a week ago does their laundry and fold your clothes for you. Only them three. Hopefully, I’ll be able to come back in the future and teach future multimedia journalists with the passion I have felt our instructors resonate with..
I’m still wondering why our counselors come to their rooms at like 2:00am though.
Oh. So much to learn. So much to achieve.
Until next time!

1. CSPA (California Scholastic Press Association) workshop is made up of instructors who volunteer their time to teach about professional journalism. They all have graduated from this workshop so they know what it means to continue the CSPA tradition that originated in 1950 with Ralph and Millie Alexander.
2. The workshop teaches aspiring, passionate students on how to write a variety of different stories during real events. (Earthquakes, real court cases and sessions, sport press conferences )
3. The program is global, bringing in different kinds of writers who graduate to become successful writers. There are countless examples of people who have gone onto great journalistic professions. (List examples)

Two ways I would cover a two acre brushfire behind the local high school:
1. Tweet it.
Yesterday, Jessica Davis taught us how to tweet short, but eye-catching posts on our Twitter account so that we would be the first on the story. At the end of the tweet, I would put make sure that my official article would be out soon on the newspaper’s website. When the article did come out, I would tweet the link to my article.
For example: Brushfire rages behind a local SLO high school! More to come later! (or something of that sort)
2. Videotape it.
Before my article on the two-acre brushfire goes to print, I will videotape the fire and talk about how it is impacting the school. I will get responses from students attending the school, school administrators and the people living around the fire. Along with these, I will get info from officials on the fire’s impact. I will also take notes during this time so I can use it in my article. I would use TwitVid or upload it to my newspaper’s website to get the video out before print.

I’ve always tried to go in the car with Mr. Stan Kelton. He’s so full of history..something that is lacking in modern America. Even though it’s only been a week, he’s made a huge stamp in all of us. Most of us didn’t know about public records and what we can do with them. I found out I don’t live in a city. He arranged the outings we had the last week and so much more.
This is him trying to show us how THE Ralph looked like.
Thank you again Mr. Kelton!

Jessie Geoffray, 17, is a Santa Monica native. But she’s really from Surrey, UK..if you know what I mean. She’s read every Harry Potter book twice. She’s read the last 150 pages of the series about four times. She went to the midnight showing of the last Harry Potter movie. She went to a midnight release party for the last installment of the series. She dressed up as Hermione last year for Halloween. She is a member of the International Affairs Club once a week which is really code for “Let’s talk about Harry Potter!”
I’ve met my soulmate.
Jessie Geoffray is in a lot of student activities, including being next year’s editor-in-chief for The Somahi, but she has a relief tangent: HARRY POTTER. Memorizing Harry Potter pickup quotes on my free time, I am an avid advocate of Harry Potter, but it’s hard to find someone who shares the same interests as me. I quote from the book and say jokes related to Harry Potter, but know one seems to get it. Jessie does. I mean…She met Warwick Davis aka Professor Flitwick and ate with him! Most of you won’t probably know who he is anyways, but I bow down to you Jessie Geoffray. I’m so mad that we weren’t exchanging Harry Potter inside jokes from the beginning of CSPA. At least we know what we’ll be doing the following week: dressing up in our hand-me-down cloaks and flying off the balcony in our Firebolts. Don’t worry counselors. I was just kidding.
On a side note: Some of you might know that I right profiles on people for my blog theme and post something after that they might like..Here’s something for you Jessie…Harry Potter pick-up lines: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hogsmeade/Harry-Potter-pick-up-lines/288992882683?ref=ts
