The more I spend time with people on the West Coast, the more West Coast lingo I learn. However, the one word I hear the most that students from California are using is tight. This is a West Coast synonym for cool. In the East Coast, I have never heard someone use the word in that way. Therefore, I looked into some examples of when Californians use the word tight.
Aneesa Andrabi- “If someone said they went to Indonesia, you would say that’s tight.”
Shelby Rowe- “If you went to a really fun party, you would say that party was tight.”
Katie Richcreek- “When I see a rainbow, I say that rainbow is tight.”
Ritkia Iyer- “If I see a car I like, I say that car is tight.”
James Huber- “That’s hella tight”
Hella is another West Coast lingo word I have learned here
Bharath Ravishankar- “That game was tight. We score 40 points.”
This blog might seem random and weird, but I have been really intrigued by seeing differences in the words we use based on the coast you live.
