Today, I was lucky enough to be a part of CSPA’s 60th anniversary. I met people who have been a part of the CSPA family for 50 years, heard some rather interesting stories, but most importantly I felt like I was a part of a family. A 60 year old family that is still going strong. And you know what? It feels special. I am honored to have my name be included with Steve Harvey, Larry Welborn, Stan Kelton and Art Aguilar. And once the time comes for them to step down and turn over the workshop to a new generation I hope to be a part of that. If I learned anything today, it was that I love CSPA and would like to be a part of it lasting another 60 years. If have been so inspired by meeting these people who were once aspiring journalists like me and used CSPA to take them to the next level of journalism. Some are not even involved with journalism anymore but have gone on to do great things. One great example is Gary Ellis who approached me today and started a great conversation with me. He told me that he is now the head of a billion dollar pharmaceutical industry in Lake Tahoe. Amazing isn’t it?! He also told me a quote I will never forget, “Newspapers aren’t dead. The way they are delivered is.” To sum it all up after today’s experience at Cuesta Park, I feel a part of something way bigger than me. And as Larry would say, “It’s pretty cool.”
